Extremely unhelpful edification. Yes, within the UK itself and a few realms of the Commonwealth, the Home Nations are referred to as countries. But, simply calling them “countries,” without context, in the same sense that the UK and Republic of Ireland are countries, does nothing to educate someone who doesn’t already understand the distinction.
