This week's current Newsweek cover featuring a fantasy image of what Princess Diana, had she lived, might have looked like at age 50. The image has sparked tremendous backlash.
The Daily Beast has provided a photo gallery of Princess Diana over the years. Had she lived, she would have turned 50 today, July 1, 2011: “Princess Diana’s 50th Birthday.”
Newsweek’s Tina Brown has written a really strange futuristic look at what Diana might have been like at 50: “Diana at 50.”

I know there will be some who will totally disagree with my point of view, but its my point of view. I admire Diana just like millions of others, however, at some point in time we must put her life into perspective. She was not some sort of saint but flesh and blood just as we are; she had her frailties just as we do. Some seem to have her on some type of pedestal, that’s not good. In fact, its almost unhealthy and unwise. We wanted she and Prince Charles to live happily ever after; we thought their marriage was some type of fairy-tale. When it did not last, some wanted to make Prince Charles into the villain. We did not know until after the fact that Diana came into the marriage with a lot of personal baggage, i.e., eating disorder, etc. A marriage cannot survive when one party or both bring dead things into the marital environment. Prince Charles should have been allowed to marry Camilla years ago, however, I do understand the reason that was not allowed to be. Now Prince Charles and Diana’s oldest son and heir has taken a wife. Catherine should be allowed to continue to evolve into her womanhood, her marriage, and, if they are so blessed, motherhood and future queen of England and the Commonwealth in tranquility. We should not make the mistake of trying to mold her into a clone of Diana. The time will come when we all must let Diana rest in peace.

I, too, am sick of the comparisons between Di and Kate. How shallow! Thanks for the comments, Geri!

The rendering of her face that they used on the cover looks almost skeletal, like a Katrina doll, which only adds another layer of inappropriateness.
