Osama bin Laden, the long-time figurehead of the al Qaeda terrorist network, has been buried at sea after being killed in a U.S. raid in Pakistan.
U.S. officials told CBS News that bin Laden’s body would be handled in accordance with Muslim traditions, which include strict rules on burial taking place within 24 hours after death.
Sources confirmed to CBS News national security correspondent David Martin that his body was released into the sea from a U.S. Navy vessel on Monday, likely into the Indian Ocean.
Bin Laden was a Saudi national, but officials tell CBS News that the Kingdom was unwilling to have his remains repatriated.
He was killed in a U.S. raid launched early Monday in the relatively-well-heeled town of Abbottabad, near the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.
I believe that the American people believe that this man is dead, however, I also am of the opinion that most Americans would like to see a picture of his body. Military officials should have wrapped his body and brought it to the U.S. so we could see for ourselves that he was in fact “the one” and cremated him. It preparing his body in accordance with his Muslim beliefs, they showed him respect; he did not show us any respect when he engineered the destruction of the World Trade Center in New York and thousands of lives were lost! What goes around comes around. Its called Karma/an eye for an eye.

I’m sure that every angle was considered in handling this delicate matter.

woow honestly i was very upset not because he was killed but the way it was let out to the public i was listening to the radio on my way to work and the host said ”yea today we are celebrating osama’s death” i don’t know maybe its just me but when have we started celebrating people’s death no matter what they have done in the past for them to be hated by people i don’t think anyone should say they are celebrating an others death especially live on air that is very disrespectful not only to people who have recently lost close ones but to muslims also i am muslim i will not lie i do not think osama was the one to make the attack on the twin towers but we all have our own opinions i am happy that they gave osama bin laden this kind of preparation instead of cremation (which i s against our religion) it shows the respect the u.s has for people no matter there past deeds but i also agree with Geri that it would be better if they had evidence that it was actually osama instead of an elderly man that was in the wrong place at the wrong or a photo shopped picture

Fatooma, have you forgotten the victory celebration Osama taped of he and his terrorist pals hooting and hollering with animal joy over the 9/11 deaths? It doesn’t matter whether you think Osama is responsible for the 9/11 deaths. He was responsible.
